What is the Story Arts Challenge?

This learning experience includes a student-facing mini-series of videos followed by a zoom event with Shivani Kapoor, Creative Director for Good Grit & formerly Art Director for Zac Brown Band, and Instructor at the Creative Circus.

Learners will wield the power of story to engage in creating branding elements for a business client. Following Shivani’s expertise, learners will create a “mood board” and design a logo that tells a company’s story. Joining this event and curriculum series will serve as a powerful way to bring industry professionals and world-class storytelling standards into your classroom.

This incredible curriculum is available to you at no cost.

More About The Curriculum

The final product of this learning experience is a portfolio that includes student notes, a mood board, three draft logos, a final logo, and a one-minute video pitching the marketing materials in a client simulation.

Teachers are encouraged to use this lesson as a tool for creative literacy to teach their classroom standards.  A client brief, formative rubric, and summative rubric are provided, but could be edited to incorporate specific standards from your academic area.  *Note, teachers can create their own Client Brief if desired to align with subject area standards or to create a specific logo for their school or community.  You do not have to use the sample Client Brief provided. In addition, Story Arts lessons integrate literacy across the curriculum, including standards of:

  • Key Ideas & Details
  • Craft & Structure
  • Integration of Knowledge & Ideas
  • Text Types & Purposes
  • Production & Distribution of Writing
  • Research to Build & Present Knowledge
  • Comprehension & Collaboration
  • Integration and Presentation of Knowledge & Ideas

To access this learning experience, you can log onto this Story Arts platform to read the teacher guidance and watch the videos. The curriculum includes 5 flexible modules that take 45 minutes each to complete.  Feel free to reduce or extend the length of lessons to meet your own classroom needs.

The live virtual event with Ms. Shivani was held on March 4th, 2022.  Classrooms can still complete the lessons, and will watch the previously recorded event with Ms. Shivani in Lesson 5.

About Your Instructor

Growing up in Atlanta, GA, Shivani has been a creative for most of her life. Adding to her fierce creativity is her passion for visual storytelling, branding, problem-solving, and strategizing.

That unique combination led to her quickly landing a Senior Design role right out of college at an Atlanta agency, where she worked with major Southern-made brands.

Prior to joining Good Grit Agency, she was the art director for Zac Brown Collective (previously known as Southern Ground) where she directed the visual identities of numerous consumer brands, a major non-profit, and the Grammy Award-winning band, including their 2019 U.S. live show tour.

Shivani is active with her local AIGA and is an instructor at the accredited portfolio school The Creative Circus. In her free time, she loves exploring with her rescue-pup, Iggy!
